1. What information do we collect?
Personal information you disclose to us
In short: We collect the personal information you choose to give us.
We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide when you subscribe to our updates, apply to speak, register for an event, or otherwise contact us. The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with us, and may include:
- Email address. The subscription form asks for this and nothing else — no name and no organisation.
- Names and contact details. If you write to us, or register for an event.
- Application content. If you apply to speak: what you propose to talk about, and usually a name, an email address and links to your work.
You must provide all required information for us to answer you or to provide the Services you asked for. If you change any of it, please let us know.
Sensitive information
We do not process sensitive information.
Payment information
We do not collect or store payment card details. Purple Circle tickets are not sold through this website. If that changes, this notice will be updated to name the payment processor before any sale opens.
Information automatically collected
In short: Some information — such as which pages are viewed — is collected automatically when you visit our Services, and only if you have consented to it.
We collect certain information automatically when you visit the site. This information does not reveal your specific identity, but may include device and usage information. We use it to keep the site secure and running, and — where you have consented — to understand how it is used.
Log and usage data
Our hosting provider records standard access logs when you visit, as every website host does. These are used to serve the site and to investigate errors and abuse. They are not used to build any profile of you, and they are recorded whether or not you consent to analytics.
Analytics data
If, and only if, you accept analytics on our cookie banner, we collect information about your visit — pages viewed, how you arrived, your device and browser, an approximate location inferred from your IP address, and a recording of your interactions with the page. If you decline, neither analytics service is loaded and none of this is collected.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand which pages are read and how visitors arrive. It is loaded only after you consent. You can opt out of Google Analytics across all websites using Google’s own browser add-on, and you can read more in Google’s Privacy Policy.
Microsoft Clarity
We use Microsoft Clarity, which records how pages are used — including a playback of pointer movement, scrolling and clicks during your visit — and produces aggregate heatmaps. It is loaded only after you consent. You can read more in Microsoft’s Privacy Statement.
2. How do we process your information?
In short: We process your information to provide, improve and administer our Services, to communicate with you, and to comply with the law. We may also process it for other purposes with your consent.
- To send you the updates you asked for. Event dates, the programme, and when tickets are available.
- To read and answer speaker applications and to organise the programme.
- To run our events and to answer questions about them.
- To understand how our Services are used so that we can improve them, where you have consented to analytics.
- To keep our Services secure and to prevent fraud and abuse.
- To comply with our legal obligations, including responding to lawful requests.
We do not process your information for advertising, and we do not make automated decisions about you.
3. What legal bases do we rely on to process your information?
In short: We process your personal information only where we believe it is necessary and we have a valid legal reason under applicable law.
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR require us to explain the valid legal bases we rely on. We may rely on the following:

- Performance of a contract. Where processing is necessary to provide something you have asked us for, such as a place at an event you registered for.
- Legitimate interests. Where processing is reasonably necessary to run and secure our Services, and does not outweigh your rights — for example keeping access logs to investigate abuse.
- Legal obligations. Where we must process your information to comply with the law, or to establish or defend our legal rights.
- Vital interests. Where processing is necessary to protect the safety of you or another person.
4. When and with whom do we share your personal information?
In short: We share information with the service providers who operate parts of our Services, and where the law requires it. We do not sell your personal information.
We may share your personal information with the following categories of third-party service provider, each acting on our instructions and under its own privacy notice. Some are located outside Nepal, so your information may be processed in another country:
- Website hosting service providers — To publish and serve this website.
- Web analytics providers — To measure how the site is used, only where you have consented.
- Email and mailing list providers — To send you the updates you asked for.
- Online form providers — To receive speaker applications.
- Cloud data storage providers — To store photographs from past events.
- Event ticketing and management platforms — To run registrations for our meetups and events.

- To protect rights and safety — where we believe it is necessary to investigate or prevent wrongdoing, or to protect the safety of any person.

5. Do we use cookies and other tracking technologies?
In short: We use cookies only if you accept them.
Cookies and similar technologies
Before you answer our cookie banner, we store nothing in your browser. When you answer, we record your choice in your browser so that you are not asked on every page. That record stays on your device and is never sent to us.
If you accept, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity set their own cookies and similar identifiers, as described in their privacy notices linked in section 1. If you decline, neither service is loaded and neither sets anything.
Withdrawing your consent
You may withdraw consent at any time by clearing this site’s stored data in your browser, which causes the banner to appear again, or by writing to us at thethinkpurple@gmail.com. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out before it was withdrawn.
6. How do we handle your social logins?
In short: We do not offer social logins.
Our Services have no user accounts, so there is no way to register or sign in with a social media account, and we receive no profile information from any social media provider. Our website links to our profiles on Discord, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube and Facebook; if you follow one of those links, that platform’s own privacy notice governs what it then collects.
7. How long do we keep your information?
In short: We keep your information for as long as necessary for the purposes set out in this notice, unless the law requires otherwise.
- Email address. Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Every email we send contains an unsubscribe link.
- Speaker applications. For the edition they were submitted for, and afterwards as part of our record of who has spoken at our events.
- Event registrations. Held by our event platform for as long as we run the event and keep its attendance record.
- Analytics information. Retained by Google and Microsoft under the retention settings on our accounts with them. Write to us and we will tell you what those settings are.
- Access logs. Retained for a short operational period by our hosting provider and then discarded.
When we no longer have a legitimate need to process your personal information, we delete it or anonymise it. Where deletion is not immediately possible — for example because it sits in a backup — we store it securely and isolate it until deletion is possible.
8. How do we keep your information safe?
In short: We aim to protect your personal information through appropriate organisational and technical measures.
We have implemented measures designed to protect the personal information we process: the site is served only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), we hold as little information as we can, we operate no user accounts or stored payment details, and we use established providers who maintain their own security programmes.
However, no electronic transmission over the internet and no storage technology can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so we cannot promise that unauthorised third parties will never defeat our security. You should access our Services within a secure environment.
9. Do we collect information from minors?
In short: We do not knowingly collect information from, or market to, people under 16 years of age.
Our Services are not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under 16. If you are under 16, please do not subscribe or send us an application. 10. What are your privacy rights?
In short: You may review, change or terminate your relationship with us at any time, depending on where you live.

In some regions — including the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland — you have rights under applicable data protection law. These may include the right:

- to restrict how we process it;

Withdrawing your consent
Where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time: unsubscribe using the link in any email we send, clear this site’s stored data to be asked about analytics again, or write to us. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before it was withdrawn.
Complaints
If you are located in the EEA or the United Kingdom and you believe we are processing your personal information unlawfully, you may complain to your local data protection supervisory authority. If you are in Switzerland, you may contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.
11. Controls for do-not-track features
Most browsers, and some operating systems and mobile applications, include a Do-Not-Track (“DNT”) setting you can activate to signal that you do not want your online browsing activities monitored. No uniform technology standard for recognising DNT signals has been finalised, and we do not currently respond to them.
In practice this changes nothing for you here: no analytics or tracking technology is loaded on our Services unless you have accepted it on our cookie banner, whatever your browser sends.
Global Privacy Control
If a standard for online tracking signals — such as Global Privacy Control — is adopted that we must follow in future, we will update this notice.
12. Do United States residents have specific privacy rights?
In short: If you live in a US state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may have rights over your personal information. We do not sell it or share it for targeted advertising.

Your rights
Depending on your state, you may have the right to know what personal information we process, to access it, to correct inaccuracies, to request deletion, to obtain a copy, to opt out of processing for targeted advertising, and not to be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
We do not sell personal information, we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we do not use it for profiling in furtherance of decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

13. Do we make updates to this notice?
In short: Yes, we update this notice as necessary to stay compliant with relevant laws.
We may update this Privacy Notice from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by a revised “Last updated” date at the top of this page and takes effect as soon as it is published. If we make material changes, we will notify you either by posting a prominent notice or by sending you a direct notification. Where a change concerns something you consented to — a new analytics tool, a new purpose, or ticket sales opening — we will ask for your consent again rather than rely on an earlier answer.
